Recto-Verso Series 2014-2018
Photo Installation with magazine images

50 x 50 cm
Each of a unique piece

Based on images of magazines mainly inspired by Iranian geometric patterns of Islamic architecture. In this series of pieces, the concept blurs the idea of collage and assemblage which
is in a way relates to any part of human thoughts and lives, picking various things and assemble
in lives. Zarfsaz folds vintage photographs and magazine papers such as German Burda moden fashion magazines, materials that carry a nostalgic sense of imported culture in a different context. She manages to create intriguing images with these photos, that is what collage serves, to create
a new meaning for an image by putting it in a new context. She found it more interesting to fold images instead of cutting these photos which gives the composition a relief quality, also utilizing the texts and letters in a way that they become images rather than text. She assumes that this folding technique is quite important because there will be an image on the backside that you can not see, a hidden image or maybe a secret message. The matter of what we can make that is replaced by how we make do with what we have and the starting point from virgin materials faded in the creating meaning in the innumerable flows of productions.
